DeLand Handed ASA Ethnomethodology Award

Congratulations to postdoc Dr. Michael DeLand, who has won the Mel Pollner Award in Ethnomethodology. Dr. DeLand was honored with the $1,000 prize in recognition of his essay “Basketball in the Key of Law: The Significance of Disputing in Pick-Up Basketball,” published in a 2013 edition of the journal Law & Society Review (47(3): 653-85). The award, presented by the Ethnomethodology and Conversation Analysis section of the American Sociological Association, is given in memory of pioneering ethnomethodologist and former UCLA professor Melvin Pollner.
