Professor Emily Erikson has been honored by the American Sociological Association’s Section on Rationality and Society for her recent book, Between Monopoly and Free Trade: The English East India Company, 1600-1757. She was awarded the section’s 2016 James Coleman Award for Outstanding Book for the work, in which she employs network theory and archival research to demonstrate the innovative nature of the East India Company, despite its status as a monopoly. It is the third award Erikson has recently received for the book, having previously been honored with the Social Science History Association’s 2015 Allan Sharlin Memorial Award and the Business History Conference’s 2015 Ralph Gomory Prize. Congratulations Emily!
