Manchester, UK: On Friday, August 23, Professor Elijah Anderson, Sterling Professor of Sociology and African American Studies at Yale University, gave the keynote address to the European Sociological Association’s (ESA) annual meeting. Professor Anderson’s speech, entitled “Living While Black: What Black Folk Know” — adapted from his forthcoming book, Black in White Space — is a powerful ethnographic exploration of the peculiar challenges black people face in America as they navigate “the white space.”
