Paul DiMaggio to deliver Hollingshead Lecture

The Department is pleased to announce that Professor Paul DiMaggio will deliver this year’s Hollingshead Lecture, titled “Analyzing Environments of Representation: Using Topic Models to Study Cultural Change”. DiMaggio is the A. Barton Hepburn Professor of Sociology and Public Affairs at Princeton University. He is well known for his work on cultural capital and other noneconomic factors in social inequality, and is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
 

The Hollingshead Lecture, named for former Professor and Department Chair August de Belmont (“Sandy”) Hollingshead, annually brings distinguished sociologists to campus to speak on a topic of their choosing. Previous lecturers include Andrew Abbott, Paula England, Michael Burawoy, William Julius Wilson and Mary Douglas.  

The lecture will take place Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at noon, in the President’s Room at Woolsey Hall. It will be followed by a short reception. All are welcome!
