The Department of Sociology is proud to announce that Jeffrey C. Alexander is the 2018 Winner of the Distinguished Contribution to Sociological Theory from the International Sociological Association Research Committee 16 (ISA RC16) on Sociological Theory. According to their website, “This award is granted to a living thinker who has made a significant contribution to sociological theory over the last two decades at least. It is intended to recognize long term achievement rather than the excellence of an individual book or single idea. The winner of the prize will be a thinker held in high standing by sociological theorists throughout the world.” Jeff Alexander delivered a lecture on his significant works.  Previous winners of this prestigious award include Alain Touraine and Zygmunt Bauman.

Congratulations, Jeff!
