Shefali Gauri Das

Shefali Gauri Das is a PhD student in the Departments of Sociology and African American Studies at Yale University, and a Dean’s Emerging Scholar at the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. Her research focuses on relationships between labor, capitalism, race, and inequality. Her B.A. Honors Thesis examined the criminal legal system’s use of fines and fees and the effects of neoliberalism and capitalism on state violence and policing. At Yale, she hopes to understand these relationships more clearly, focusing on the role of economic systems in racialized state violence in the U.S.
