Yongxin Shang

Postdoc Associate for Emma Zang

Yongxin Shang is a sociologist and demographer specializing in aging, family, and health inequalities. She is currently a Postdoctoral Associate in the Department of Sociology at Yale University, supervised by Dr. Emma Zang. With funding support from the Alzheimer’s Association and the National Alzheimer’s Coordinating Center (NACC), she is working on research projects on health trajectories, healthcare utilization, and the unpaid caregiving costs for individuals with cognitive impairments. She received her PhD in Public Policy from Cornell University, with a concentration in Sociology and a minor in Demography. Yongxin’s research is guided by three overarching questions: (1) How do changing family structures shape the availability of care resources for older adults in rapidly aging societies? (2) How do different care arrangements shape the well-being of older adults and caregivers, contributing to inequalities over the life course? (3) How can policies better support older adults and their caregivers? Her previous work has been published in journals such as the Journal of Marriage and Family and the Journal of Gerontology: Social Sciences.
