Recent PhD grad Shai Dromi has been honored with the Best Graduate Student Paper Award by the American Sociological Association’s Global and Transnational Sociology Section. Dromi, recently appointed as Lecturer on Sociology at Harvard University, won the award for his paper “For good and country: nationalism and the diffusion of humanitarianism in the late nineteenth century.” The article, which appeared in the April 2016 issue of The Sociological Review, examines the “nascent transnational humanitarian field” of the late 19th century through the work of the emerging Red Cross Movement in the 1860s-1890s, primarily drawing on the archives of the International Committee of the Red Cross.
