Ángel Escamilla García garnered two awards from the Latin American Studies Association. He received the best dissertation award for the Mexico Section for his dissertation, Knowledge, Place, and Experience in the Migrant Journey: How Central American Migrant Youth Negotiate Violence in Mexico. He also received the honorable mention for Best Article in Social Science for his article “The Borderlandization of Mexico: Mexico’s New Policies of Deportation and Detention of Minor Migrants and their Effects on Migrant Movement,” published in Sociological Studies of Children and Youth, Volume 29, 11–31, 2022. Dr. Escamilla García is currently a postdoctoral fellow at Cornell University. He will join the Yale Sociology Department starting this summer.
