PhD candidate Sarah Brothers has won the 2019 Bruce D. Johnson Student Paper Award from the American Sociological Association’s Alcohol, Drugs, and Crime Section. The paper, ““A Good “Doctor” is Hard to Find: Assessing Uncredentialed Expertise in Assisted Injection,” is based on her dissertation research. It examines how lay people use trust mechanisms to assess uncredentialed expertise. Members of the award committee described the paper as timely and impressive. One committee member wrote, the “”so what” question is clearly answered for me.”
