Professor Alka Menon wins the 2024 ASA Sociology Body and Embodiment’s Book Award for “Refashioning Race”

Professor Alka Menon’s book, Refashioning Race: How Global Cosmetic Surgery Crafts New Beauty Standards, received the 2024 Book Award from the Section on the Sociology of the Body and Embodiment of the American Sociological Association (ASA). The section recognizes the best book that makes a significant contribution to the sociology of the body and embodiment. The award committee wrote, “We all found Refashioning Race to be an extraordinary contribution to empirical and theoretical knowledge on research on body and embodiment. Moreover, the project stood out as methodologically innovative, intersectional, and transnational.” Refashioning Race was published the University of California Press in 2023. It will be the subject of a Book Forum session at the 2024 ASA conference in Montreal.
