William McMillan obtained his PhD from Yale Sociology in May 2018.  He is departing for the University of Connecticut to be a Humility and Conviction in Public Life Residential Fellow.  His dissertation, “Cosmopolitan Calvinists: Global Religion in A Secular Age,” explored the relationship between faith and wider culture in an evangelic movement.  He showed that conservative faith does not necessarily entail conservative social attitudes and that the relationship between theology and the profane issues that challenge us in everyday life is surprisingly contigent and complex.  At the University of Connecticut, Dr. McMillan will investigate the relationship of humility, knowledge and faith in evangelical Christianity.
