BTS,  Korea’s most popular K-pop band is going on hiatus at the height of their career to carry out their compulsory military service, as reported in a story in the BBC.  According to Grace Kao who studies and teaches about popularKorean culture,  ”it’s a reality that many in South Korea are used to,”as BTS follows in the footsteps of the scores of other K-pop idols and K-drama stars who’ve had to take time out for the military.
