The Yale Department of Sociology was recently ranked number one for Historical Sociology (tied with Harvard) and number five for the Sociology of Culture, by U.S. News and World Report. Professor Julia Adams commented:

“I’m delighted that U.S. News reflects what we’re accomplishing in the department and via our crossdisciplinary initiatives, like the Center for Religion & Politics and YaleCHESS. We are so fortunate to have attracted the outstanding junior faculty and grad student talent we have as well! They’ve powered our work to new heights.”

While Professor Jeffrey Alexander, a Director of the Center for Cultural Sociology was pleased to note:

“This welcome recognition affirms the high ranking that Yale cultural sociology has long received from U.S. News. Our Center for Cultural sociology is a pretty unique place, bringing our Yale doctoral students into contact with visiting pre- and postdoctoral students and faculty from around the world, most notably in our CCS workshop, which has been meeting for two hours every Friday for nearly 15 years.”

Bravo to all for their hard work and dedication!
