Shirin Purkayastha is a PhD student in the Departments of African American Studies and Sociology at Yale university. Her research examines how conditions of poverty and racial inequality shape and constrain contemporary visions of public safety across organizational, institutional contexts, and neighborhood contexts. Her research is informed by prior research experiences at UCSF and the Vera Institute of Justice.
