Patrimonial Capitalism and Empire, edited by Mounira Charrad (University of Texas-Austin) and Julia Adams, has just been published in the Political Power and Social Theory book series. The volume explores the interconnected formations of patrimonial politics, empire and capitalism, and includes essays by Adams (with George Steinmetz, University of Michigan), and Malik Martin (Ph.D. 2008), who was advised by Scott Boorman during his sociology doctoral work at Yale. The essays in the volume analyze patrimonial politics in empires in regions throughout the world, including the United States, Latin America, China, South Africa, North Africa, West Africa, India, Australia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Indonesia.
