Jonathan Endelman has been awarded a Critical Language Scholarship for summer 2013. He will be spending the summer in Turkey in either Bursa or Ankara. The CLS institute is funded by the U.S. State Department and provides one academic year of study through an intensive eight-week program. Formal classroom instruction is supplemented by cultural activities, excursions, and living with a Turkish host family. Jonathan will be drawing on his language skills in Turkish and Arabic to study the transition from the Ottoman Empire to the colonial era in the context of one or more countries in the Middle East.
