Professor Rene Almeling and her colleague Shana Gadarian from Syracuse University have just published the first results of their national survey on genetic testing in Genetics in Medicine, the official journal of the American College of Genetics and Genomics. The article, “Public Opinion on Policy Issues in Genetics and Genomics,” reveals that Americans demonstrate widespread support for federal funding of genetic research and laws protecting citizens against genetic discrimination. They find that Americans both want and need to involve medical professionals in the process of genetic testing - counter to the practices of some direct-to-consumer genetic testing companies. Read more and read the Genetics in Medicine article. Congratulations, Rene!
