Matthew Mahler

Matthew Mahler is a lecturer in the departments of Political Science and Sociology.  His general interests are in the areas of political and cultural sociology, classical and contemporary theory, ethnographic methods, and gender and embodiment.  He is currently working on a manuscript, based on over two years worth of ethnographic fieldwork, which analyzes the everyday realities of professional political life in the United States.  More specifically, this research examines the unique sensibilities and forms of “skillful coping” that politicos develop through their membership in the universe of politics.  His research has been published in such journals as the American Behavioral Scientist, Ethnography, and Qualitative Sociology, and he is also the co-editor of multiple books.
