Preface
The initial ethnography conference that would lead to a series of conferences (which have now become something of a tradition), emphasizing the close mentoring of younger ethnographers by veteran ethnographers, was organized at the University of California, Los Angeles in 2001. Jack Katz and Bob Emerson brought together these individuals to present and share their work and to learn from one another in a constructive, yet informal and supportive, scholarly atmosphere.
